Esther didn't know what to think of the island. She was spying on it from the boat as it chugged closer, and... well, she was getting mixed feelings. From far away, she had had a vision of exotic and almost a tropical island with beautiful beaches and, to be honest, gorgeous men to spy upon while tanning. Or at least, that was the idea. Once she got a little closer, she could see that the small town wasn't exactly up to par with her imagination. But it was quaint. Enough.
When the boat finally started to pull into the harbor, Esther looked almost devastated, if not heartbroken. This was definitely not the island she had been looking forward to. Perhaps she should have looked thoroughly at the travel brochure before boarding the boat. But she didn't. So, now she was here, at the start of her adventure. Grumbling, but still standing tall, Esther sidled around her bag until it was hanging off her left shoulder, and mostly covering up that scar of hers. She hated hot weathers and the inability to wear clothes that fully covered up her back and arms. At least autumn was coming near, and after autumn was winter, one of her favorite seasons. But until then, she would wear (more than) revealing clothes to accommodate for the warm weather and complain. For that was what she did best. Well, among other things.
Finally with her feet on "solid ground" (she didn't really count the rickety dock being "solid") she straightened up and started to leave, when she heard a commotion from behind her. She, along with other people, turned around, although the others rushed down the dock and toward the ocean, crowding around although trying not to fall. Well, whatever it was, it was certainly not as important as where she was supposed to go next, so she flicked her long hair over her shoulders and started down the dock, using a bit of an over-exaggerated "model walk" that had become a little habit than anything else. She had managed to make it down the dock and onto the streets when someone grabbed her arm and shouted, "You're missing the herd!" before rushing of in the direction of the ocean--where she had just come from. What in Arceus' name was everyone so excited about? Curiosity getting the best of her, she turned around too, although what she saw was certainly not what she had expected.
Further into the ocean, there were blue humps rising in and out of the ocean, and following were large, finned tails. Despite her sour thoughts of the island before, Esther had to admit that the view was spectacular. She had never really seen anything like it before, despite having grown up in Lilycove. She would have to jot this down somewhere, before she forgot. Upon arriving at Konika Village, I was greeted by migrating Wailmer and Wailords. would be what she would write. Perhaps this was a sign that things would go more or less according to plan. But whether it meant anything or not, it certainly changed her views about the villave and the island.
Esther stood there for quite a while until the great Pokemon slowly dispersed, as did the crowd. When she was sure the ocean was still, she hitched up her bag on her shoulder and started down the street, in kind of a positive mood. It wasn't really long until she reached the lab--it wasn't hard to find--and she knocked on the door, waiting for someone to answer. She might be good-natured, but she lost patience easily. In moments time, she was starting to fidget, fixing her shirt and pulling her hair over one shoulder, then letting it fall down her back, hitching up her bag.
Esther could never stand still unless she really, really needed to.

As it did outside, the migrating Wailmer and Wailords caused quite the commotion in Professor Aspen's lab. Many, if not all, of the lab aides on staff that day were excited and wished to go study the patterns and the Pokemon; after all, this didn't occur every day. Everyone bustled about and looked for an excuse to witness the event.
Everyone, that is, except James Friestien. In fact, he was asleep for most of the hooplah and excitement of the migration, only awaken when a younger aide, Jacquelyn Skidd found him.
"Hey, Jim," she stated urgently, prodding the snoozing aide. He let out a grunt and continued to snore in response, making Jacquelyn grow a bit more annoyed. "Jim," the young aide attempted again, but to no luck. "Now I know how your Slowking feels! JIMMY, WAKE UP!"
"Buh?" At that, James snapped awake and blinked at her blearily. After a moment, he relaxed and began to rub his eyes. "Don' call me that," he mumbled in response, still not very attentive. It was rare to find the aide interested in much of anything, unless it had nothing to do with what he was supposed to be doing at the time.
"Can you cover for me?" Now that her hope for help was awake, Jacquelyn wasted no time in moving her plan forward and spoke with a quick, hurried tone. "The Wailmer and Wailords are migrating, Jim! I know you don't really care, but I do and I want to see it soooooo bad! Please please please cover for me, pleaaaaaase?" As if to emphasize it, she put on a pout and make her eyes big and round behind her glasses; this trick worked quite well on the boys back home, she remembered. Jim looked up, getting assaulted with the puppy dog look. He threw up hands in front of his face in attempts of a shield, but laughed.
"Now, with a face like that, how do I say no?" he responded, causing Jacquelyn to squeal her thank you and hug him before bounding away. Exhaling slowly, he leaned back in his seat and ran a hand over his exhausted expression. What was it little Jackie was supposed to be doing right now...? Oh, right, greeting trainers. It was she loved the most about her job in the lab, he noted dully... 'These Wailords must be pretty friggin' important to her.' Slowly, the aide's eyes began to shut once more, and he was about to drift off, when...
TAP TAP TAP.
"Mmmmf." What luck! The moment he got comfortable - which truly wasn't that rare - was the moment a trainer arrived. Taking his time, Jim stood and stretched before striding over to the door and fixing his appearance in order to greet Esther. Once the door opened, he was smiling and friendly, almost seeming as if he was prepared the whole time for the ex-coordinator's presence. "Hey there, welcome to Professor Aspen's lab," he greeted. "Come on in. You're here for a Pokemon, right? I'm an aide, I'll be glad to help ya out. Th' name's Jim."

Esther didn't have to wait too long for someone to answer the door, and for that, she was glad. Her lips pulled into a smile when the door swung open, mirroring that of the man she was facing. She had actually expected to wait a little while: the migrating herd must have attracted most of the people in the laboratory, and she was surprised she didn't end up getting run over by them in their hurry. Instead, she had come across no one. Maybe she had missed them.
"Hi there, Jim," she said, squeezing between Jim and the doorway and into the lab. "I'm Esther." Inside the lab, she took a slow and small circle where she stood, taking it in. To be honest, it looked a lot alike the other labs she's seen, but she tried to be nice and nodded, trying to look impressed. Then, just in case he noticed, and just in case he would say something about it, she quickly added, almost hastily, "I suppose I'm a little older than most of the people you see come by for starter Pokemon."
Esther then sat on the edge of the desk, crossing her legs and looking up at Jim. "It seems the Waimer and the Wailord caused quite a commotion today," she noted, suddenly realizing that the lab was actually quiet and empty, other than her and Jim. Perhaps most of the laboratory people had already headed out to watch the herd. "Are they something special around here?" But then she regretted it, along with the almost disrespectful tone in her voice. Oops. She certainly wasn't making the best impression.
Avoiding awkward silence, she started on another topic: "I heard Lanorae has its own special set of starter Pokemon, is it true?"

Fighting off a yawn, Jim kept up the friendly demeanor and shut the door behind Esther. He never was very good at waking up... Trying to stay alert, he focused on the newcomer. Young adult, moderately beautiful... If it wasn't for that awful scar poking out from her left side. Should he even acknowledge its existence? Some people were touchy about that kind of thing, and she seemed a bit... vain. Then again, she wasn't doing anything to hide it. Maybe she was okay with it. 'Ahhhh, who cares, anyway?' the aide resolved at last, letting out a shrug. It was perfect timing; despite the fact he wasn't paying attention to what Esther was saying, the gesture followed after her mentioning of her age. If she saw it was up for argument, but it's not like Jim cared much about that either.
"It seems that the the Wailmer and the Wailord caused quite a commotion today. Are they something special around here?"
Previous to this statement, Jim had began to wonder about the whereabouts of his Slowking, Sir Bartholomew, that always accompanied him to work. He was there when the aide fell asleep... Now he was nowhere to be found. Odd. Suddenly, the man realized he was asked a question and made to answer, but already Esther was moving on.
"I heard Lanorae has its own special set of starter Pokemon, is it true?"
A smile split across Jim's face once more. "You heard right. There are a lot of Pokémon native to Lanoare and Lanorae alone, but the three you can get here are Iglora, who's a Grass-type and kinda like a little dinosaur; Firecub, who's just what he sounds like, y'know, a Fire-type lion cub; and Seaward, a Water-type serpent Pokémon. Aside from them, we have some Pokémon found in other regions... Growlithe, Glameow, Ekans, and Natu are the contestants this round. Aaaand if you don't like any of those, you can take one of our eggs and get the Pokémon that comes out." Raising a brow and trying to make the encounter a bit less awkward, he joked, "So which one of them is going to be the lucky winner, Miss Esther?"

To be more than honest, Esther was relieved that the awkwardness was over. She was sure that she had probably been the only one to feel it, but she still didn't like it. Esther was quite the friendly person, and she absolutely hated silences. Especially the awkward kind. She also didn't like awkward people, but that was judgmental, and something she shouldn't touch. Instead, she rather listened intently to what Jim said. While taking in all of the information, she shifted how she sat, hiding her left side from view--mostly out of habit. Nowadays, she rarely realized that she was doing so, and most people have had the decency not to ask her about it. But Esther's just absolutely positive that she would come across someone who would most definitely not hesitate to ask questions. So she kept it covered.
Esther was quiet for a moment, taking in her options. She most certainly could take one of the rarer Pokemon. But she could also start off with a Pokemon she was already familiar with, something that would be a little more comfortable with. Especially either that Glameow or that Growlithe. The Glameow's evolution wasn't exactly the most beautiful of Pokemon, but she rather liked how the pre-evolution looked. And could anyone imagine having an Arcanine in their party? Sure one had to get a hold of a Fire Stone, but it would definitely be worth the wait. It was a hard decision, certainly, but she ended up asking: "Could I see the Glameow that you have?"
She just couldn't help it. She should probably be asking for one of the rarer starters, and Glameow wasn't exactly the best battling Pokemon, but Esther couldn't resist. Hopefully, she would be able to choose a Pokemon, although, if not, she was fine with just receiving one as well.

With a nod and a smile, Jim made to grab the proper Pokeball for Esther. However, as he reached the table, he found the contents lying across the wooden surface to be scattered this way and that - including the Pokeballs. Some were upside-down, others were balancing precariously on the edge, and there were even those that seemed untouched. However, drowsiness and confusion settled in and left the aide clueless as to which Pokeball contained the Glameow. Jim bit the inside of his cheek, thankful that his back was to Esther as to hide his shame. Where was good ol' Barty when you needed him? God knows the Slowking was his trainer's right hand at work... Carefully picking up certain Pokeballs and examining them, as if he knew what he was doing, James quickly tried to devise a plan. How was he to play this off coolly? And, as it often did for this particular aide, an irrational solution popped into his head that might solve all of his problems.
A large smile now on his face, Jim turned back around to face Esther. "You know, I think you deserve a little better. Wait here," he told her before disappearing down the hallway. The soon-to-be-trainer was left by her lonesome for a while, her only company being the odd whirring noises coming from some of the machines nearby and the calls of Pokemon from various hallways. However, in due time, Jim returned with a bag slung over one arm and a Pokemon held in his other. As the Glameow gracefully dropped to the ground on all fours and padded over to Esther, however, she could see that this was no ordinary Glameow; instead of a blue-and-white fur coat, the Pokemon shimmered with each step while it flaunted its pink-and-purple coloration. With a moment's hesitation, the cat Pokemon leaped onto the desk next to Esther and began to eyeball the newcomer.
OoC:// Thaaaat's right, a shiny. =D I felt you deserved it. Esther is very original in design and personality, and plus you've always been so kind to me. You even helped me with drawing! No one's ever really reached out to me like that. So... this is my thanks. I hope you like it. =3

[/center] Esther raised an eyebrow when Jim seemed to falter in his search for the Pokeball. He had turned around to grab a Pokeball, one of the many scattered across the desk, when he seemed to falter. He was one of the aides, wasn't he? Was it that he didn't know which one was which? Amused at the idea, Esther hid a silent giggle behind one hand, her eyes turning into crescent moons. It was a nice trait handed down to her by her Asian ancestors, and to be honest, she didn't mind. It gave her a unique look compared to all the ornery people milling about. But nowadays, it seemed being outrageous was the new "in." People walked around with metal jammed into every possible place in their body, and their hair coloured to look so bizarre, it almost looked like a unicorn came and decided to vomit on it. Esther had almost considered following the trends, but had then decided against it. this way, now she was the unique one, the one to catch everyone's eye. Perhaps it was her past catching up to her, but it wasn't a crime to look back to the past, was it?
Esther had been much too caught up in her reminiscing, she hadn't noticed that Mr. Jimmy had disappeared until she realized all she could hear were calls of other Pokemon. Had he just left her here? Having completely missed him telling her to wait, Esther pushed off from leaning against the desk and stood up all the way, all her weight pushed to one leg. On her usually bright face was a frown, something on the verge of a pout, but then she caught sight of Jim coming back. At first she thought he was an idiot. Did he get the wrong Pokemon? Didn't he know that Glameow were a beautiful blue, not purple like some Nidoking? But then he got closer, and Esther really saw what he had in his arms.
"Arceus," she breathed, as the Glameow gracefully leaped onto the desk beside her. For a moment, she held her breath, wanting to believe so much that this was real, and not a dream, and almost jumping out in joy when she felt the need to breath. Cautiously, Esther met the Glameow's bright aqua eyes with her own brown ones, and she felt it. That click where everything felt all right in the world, where it felt like this was the way it was meant to be. Slowly, she lifted a hand to stroke the Glameow's ear, relishing the soft fur. "Well hello there, handsome," she whispered, whether the Glameow could hear her or not. Her eyes seemed to take in all of the rare and oddly coloured Pokemon, and it pained her to have to tear her eyes away to look at the aide.
"Really, I--It's just--Thank you." Esther said. She flustered at first, but she had learned to take good things as they came and not to question them. "You have just made my life."

OoC:// ACCOUNT CHANGE! I just made this, I wanted to use it really badly. XD; But never fear, Andi is STILL here! BiC://Jim grinned at Esther's incredulous reaction to the shiny Glameow. It felt good to do nice things for others... even if, initially, they were done to save face. The aide crossed his arms and leaned on the doorframe. They'd suit each other, he knew. That Glameow knew he was special, and from what he saw of Esther, she'd have no problem of reminding him of it. 'I just hope Morwen didn't need him for anything... Oh well. Out of my hands now,' he mulled over with a mental shrug. It's not as if he could suddenly snatch it away from Esther now... Though the idea was mildly amusing. "Thank you. You have just made my life."At this, Jim began to laugh. "It was nothing! I'm glad you like him," the aide said, flashing his teeth once more. "But will you remember me in your memoir, then?" Shaking his head, Jim then handed Esther the starter pack. "Here, you'll need this. Supplies and all that. Wouldn't want anything happening to him, no?"Congratulations! Esther has received a Shiny Glameow!Name: -Your Choice- Gender: -Your Choice- Level: 5 Attacks: Fake Out, Scratch Ability: Limber, Own Tempo Nature: -Your Choice- Experience: 0% Happiness Status: 0 (Neutral) Held Item: None Esther has received a Starter Pack!
