Ugh, this was just her luck. Esther hadn't been on the route for more than five minutes when the skies suddenly opened up and let loose the rain, just when she had decided to take a detour from the main rode and into the grass. It kind of sucked that there were no trees to take cover from on this route. So in a few minutes, Esther was absolutely soaked. Maybe she should have brought an umberella. Just maybe. Or maybe she should have started her journey when it wasn't so... disgusting and wet and raining. But as soon as it started, the rain stopped, and the sun peeked out from the clouds, as if it meant to mock her. Stupid sun. Stupid weather. Making a face, Esther continued on, trudging through the tall grass and shaking her boots every so often. It wasn't long until she opted to walking barefoot with her jeans rolled up to her knees. There. Esther - 1, Nature - 0.
Feeling a little better, Esther tied her hair ino a loose bun and put on a pair of sunglasses. The first action was because she didn't like how her hair waved when it was wet, and the second because one could never go wrong with sunglasses. When she felt like she was ready, she pulled out a Pokeball and pressed the button in the middle to enlarge it. Oh, this was a little unnerving. She didn't know why--it wasn't the first time she was meeting the Pokemon--but it was just that she still couldn't believe her luck. She would certainly have to take Jim again later. Holding the Pokeball, Esther aimed it out in front of her and gingerly pressed the button in the center. With a flash of light, the sphere split open, and the light soon formed into a Glameow. But as soon as the Pokémon realized that where he was sitting was wet and not dry, he let out a yowl and nimbly lept onto Esther's shoulders, which he happily dug his claws into.
"Nice to see you too, Harley," Esther said, wincing. Gingerly, she un-snagged the Glameow's claws from her shoulders and made sure that his claws were sheathed before letting him settle back down onto her shoulder. But then the Glameow acted as if nothing was the matter and streatched over the woman's shoulders, almost as if he was taking a nap. Esther rolled her eyes, but couldnt help smiling. She'd make him like her. No, she'd make him love her.
With the Glameow on er shoulders, Esther strolled through the grass, holding her shoes in one hand.

The rain had stopped? The rain had stopped! Slowly, wild Pokémon began to emerge from their hiding places where they had hid from the wet weather. No one living in the High Prairie enjoyed rain much due to its rarity and inconvenience, but now it was over, and life could resume as normal. One of the more excited Pokémon to be able to move around once more zoomed out from beneath a tree and began to fly around in circles to celebrate.
"Ledy, ledy, ledybaaaaaaa~!" it sang, not caring much who saw or what happened. It was dry! The sun was out! What more was needed to celebrate? And it was with that attitude that the Ledyba began to fly all over the place without paying much attention to what was around it... and thus caused it to make a beeline towards Esther and Harley. With closed eyes, it didn't know of the impending impact and therefore would not do anything to avoid it... It was all up to Esther.
Wild Ledyba has appeared (and is approaching at an alarming rate)! What will Esther do?

It wasn't long until Esther started enjoying the sunny weather along with most of the Pokémon who popped out of hiding, heads peeking out of the tall grass. The walk was fairly peaceful, Esther had to admit, despite the uncomfortable and wet clothes. Hopefully the warm-ish Autumn sun would dry her off before too long. Looking around, she saw that most of the Pokémon seemed to share her attitude about the sun after the shower, romping around in the grass, oblivious to her walking around. The only Pokémon who seemed to not really care was Harley, who hung over her shoulders, napping. He comfortably adjusted to her walking, his head swaying from side to side as his curled tail bounced with every step. Esther wanted to run around too, if only it wasn't for Harley, but she made do.
To be honest, Esther didn't see the Ledyba coming at her until it was at least five feet away. By then she didn't recognize that it was a Pokemon, just saw a red projectile headed her way. Shrieking, she jumped out of the way and swung her shoes down at the unidentified object, aiming to hit it hard. It wasn't long until Harley got spooked as well, yowling as he launched himself--claws and all--at the red object, aiming to take down whatever it was. How dare the thing ruin his comfortable nap? Harley didn't give a thought as to that it was really all Esther's fault. All he saw was her whacking at the Ledyba, and decided that it was all the wild Pokemon's fault. The poor Pokémon.
When Esther managed to calm down, she took another look, and recognized the bug-Pokemon. Oops. "Oh my, I'm so sorry," she said, before reaching over to drag the angry Glameow from the innocent Ledyba. She got clawed in the process, but Esther managed to pull the Glameow away and have him settled on her shoulders again, although he shot daggers at the wild Pokémon. Cautious, Esther reached over at the Ledyba, sincere in her apology. She didn't mean to whack at it that hard, and she wasn't sure if the hit was enough to cause damage, although she hoped it didn't.

The Ledyba opened her eyes just as Esther was swinging her boots, unable to prevent the flying mass of fabric from slamming her down. With a squeak, she rocketed earthwards, only to feel a mass of purple crush her to the ground. It wouldn't have been so bad, seeing as the wild Pokemon had never been all that careful and would be able to shake this off with time, but this big purple thing was pointy, which was never a very fun experience. Unless you like that kind of thing, I don't judge. However, this Ledyba was not quite that eccentric and lied on the ground for a moment after Esther pulled Harley away, dazed and aching. So much for a celebration of nice weather. Blinking, the first thing the Ledyba saw was Ether's bare, muddy feet. A trainer, huh?
...Wait, crap. A trainer! With a buzz, the bug Pokemon tried to skitter back and flee. She didn't really want to battle anyone, especially not anyone resembling a cat. Last time the Ledyba checked, cats eat bugs. At least, Miss Amazing's cats eat bugs. Especially ladybugs, now that fall has set in. After a moment, however, Esther's apology sunk in and the wild Pokemon relaxed. a kind, polite trainer? Funny, one doesn't really run into those. Most just want to fight, fight, fight without stopping. Hesitantly, despite Esther's inability to understand her, the Ledyba responded, <Uh... Don't worry about it, I guess...> She scratched the back of her head with one of her arms and smiled in attempts to convey the message clearly. <It was my bad, really.> That Glameow, on the other hand? There might be a problem. After all, was pouncing on her really all that necessary? Inadvertently, she sent Harley a glare in return.
OoC:// Oh goodness, you're fine! That was really interesting, actually. A unique response to the situation. And quite comical in my head! And sorry that my post is kinda sorta really lame. Working on a paper at the same time as this, my brain kinda went kaputz.

Esther let out a deep sigh of relief, releasing tension in muscles she didn't know she was holding. "Oh thank goodness. I was so afraid that I hurt you and that would have been completely uncalled for and I'm just so sorry that I didn't think before I acted--I tend to do that often--or at least, I'm told," she started, not realizing that she was rambling until she paused to breath. She's also often told that she's a little talkative--something that isn't necessarily the best trait to have, especially when it looked like she was talking to herself. At least there wasn't anyone around. Oh, how she wished she could understand the Ledyba. Or just Pokémon in general. It would certainly make things much easier. She had only been surrounded by Pokémon for less than an hour and already she was feeling a little starved for human companionship. Or at least, for someone she could talk to.
¨Hrmph. You're very right it was your fault,¨ Harley snapped, still draped upon Esther's shoulders. ¨Why don't you watch where you're flying next time, instead of ramming into people? You're lucky my trainer decided not to have me attack you.¨ The Glameow paused to give a quick swipe of his paw over his ear, the beginnings of his cleaning ritual. ¨Or you'd be dead already.¨ His icy cold eyes shot a few daggers at the Bug/Flying type before continuing with his cleaning. He didn't much care for Pokémon who were unmannerly and quite rude. Of course, he wouldn't know what was going on in that idiotic Ledyba's head, but he knew for a fact that it wasn't something smart.
Esther might not be able to speak Pokémon or understand the conversation, but she could feel the tension and right now, it was so thick, you could slick through it with a knife. Trying to divert the atmosphere into something a little more positive, she plastered a big smile onto her face and made an enthusiastic motion that was more like an exaggerated clap. "So how are you doing today, Ledyba?"
Perhaps she started another awkward moment, but Esther rather preferred that to the angry tension that was building up. She was afraid episodes like these would be a reoccurring event with the prickly Glameow.

At that, the Ledyba tensed. She wasn't one for starting a fight, but geez oh man, that Glameow was asking for it! However, facts were facts: Bugs + Cats = Disaster, so she tried to simply shake it off. Her wings ruffled and puffed out slightly after Harley's comment, but she said nothing to him. Personal victory number one. Knowing fully well that Esther could not understand her, the Ledyba responded with another smile. This one was wider and happier than the one before. <It stopped raining, I couldn't be better!> she chirped. <I thought I was gonna have to stay holed up forever.> There was really no logic behind talking to Esther, she knew, but it was a way to ignore and blow off Harley and his attitude, which made the Ledyba feel that much better about herself.

Esther watched the Ledyba with full attention as it talked. To her all she heard was "ledyba ledyba ledyba~", but she was pretty sure the Pokémon was, well, answering her question. Maybe they could understand human speech while she was stuck trying to decipher what they wanted. To be honest, she was getting fond of the little Pokémon. How much more adorable could it get? "Oh, I'm sure you're glad the rain's stopped, right? Same here! I thought it was going to rain forever and forever. And here I am, stuck without an umbrella. I was getting drenched and wet and disgusting, then the sun came up!" Esther emphasized the last word with a bit of a smile on her face.
At least, she hoped the Ledyba could understand her. She couldn't imagine what she looked like, talking to some Pokémon when she obviously wasn't going to get a reply. Harley, however, didn't take the snubbing well, and with an angry hiss, he launched himself off Esther's shoulders and at the Ledyba, claws out in preparation for a nasty Scratch attack.

Before the Ledyba could even attempt to continue the one-sided conversation with Esther and give Harley the cold shoulder once more, the Glameow was crashing into her with claws extended. Well, crap. That plan failed. After freeing herself from Harley's pointy grasp once more, the Ledyba flew backwards and hovered above the ground to prepare for her retaliation. <Didn't anyone ever teach you not to hit girls?> she snapped rather lamely before tucking her legs in and hurling herself forward in a Tackle. It was almost the same as when the wild Pokemon first encountered Esther and Harley, except this time, she had a purpose. And what what that purpose? To show that stupid purple cat who's boss.
Wild Ledyba was hit! Wild Ledyba used Tackle!

Don't you know there's a difference between hitting a lady, and taking out an annoying Ledyba? Harley retorted. The Pokemon had been rather satisfied with his move--half because it had hit and half because he hadn't made a fool out of himself like he had feared. After the attack he landed gracefully into the tall grass, only his long tail visible over the blades. This was his first real battle (he had some practice back in the lab to get him up to the level he was at now), and he wanted to prove to Esther what he could do. The trainer was in love with him anyway, but why would a Pokemon want to be looked up to just for his looks? (Not that it was a bad thing.)
Oshit. Esther had definitely not meant for that to happen. But what was she going to do now? This wasn't exactly her first encounter with a wild Pokemon, but this situation was new to her. Usually most of her former Pokemon had been... well, willing to listen to her. This was her first time with the Glameow--she was sure that the Pokemon didn't respect trust her enough to listen to her. She felt really torn. On one hand, she didn't really want to battle the Ledyba (it was goddamn adorable), but on the other, she wasn't about to jump in and interrupt the battle. Think of all the scratches she'd end up getting! (well, that and Harley kind of needed the experience anyway). But before Esther could even decide on what to do, the Ledyba retaliated with a Tackle, aimed right at Harley.
The Glameow crouched and tensed when he saw the was headed toward him. He thought he could do dive to the side just before he was hit, so the Ledyba didn't have time to pull out of the Tackle and ended up slamming into the ground. But he was too slow and got hit, the force throwing him back. He landed awkwardly at Esther's feet, but he didn't give her any time to react. Pulling himself up to a standing position, he pulled himself up and let out a growl. Then, he ducked under the tall grass to hide his whereabouts before popping up just under the Ledyba for another scratch attack.

In honesty, the Ledyba didn't have much confidence that her attack was going to hit; usually, she was a terrible shot. When her body made contact with Harley's, however, excitement shot through her, and she almost forgot to pull up out of the tackle. Fortunately, the transfer of momentum from one Pokemon to the other gave her enough time to recover and make her way up into the air. Ha! That stupid Glameow! She'd show him for being so arrogant. By Arceus, it was just plain rude. Despite herself, the Ledyba took the opportunity to make a face at Harley.
Immediately following her gloat, Harley had recovered and let out a growl, which sounded more like a high-pitched whine. <Really?> she laughed, starting to grin. Somewhere, in the back of her mind, the Ledyba realized how hypocritical her hatred of Harley's pride was, but that was beside the point right now, because that just made Harley sound pathetic. Subconsciously, she made the decision to go easier on the cat. This battle was hers either way. Before she could react properly, however, the Glameow had vanished, and her grin was quick to follow. Um, well. This wasn't good. Trying to keep alert and listen for the cat Pokemon, the Ledyba looked around in all directions... Except for the one that mattered. Harley appeared under her with claws extended once more and the Ledyba had no time to react, letting out a cry and flapping her already-pounding wings faster as to get away from Harley. All right, that was it. Round two. Tucking in once more, the Ledyba hurtled towards the Glameow with another Tackle. It's not like she could do much else.
Wild Ledyba was hit! Wild Ledyba used Tackle! OOC// You owe me, womann. You know how~ ;D Bahaha. Um. Slight update, I checked Serebii and found that the move list for Glameow changed. Harley would have Fake Out, but not Growl. Since he'd level up from this battle, wanna just take Fake Out and I'll let Growl slide? We couldn't have really helped it, what with HG/SS release being between then and now.

Harley felt much better about this battle. It might be his first, but his pride had swollen his ego to the size of a Groudon. He had already landed two Scratch attacks on the Ledyba, out of two tries. Forget that he had also been hit. What really mattered was that really, he was winning. And making faces during a battle was definitely not a mature thing to do. When the Ledyba made fun of his growl (which really hadn't been much of a growl but more of a whine), he had felt that extra fury fuel that last Scratch attack. He felt himself launch off the ground faster and harder. In midair, he had hooked onto the Ledyba to rake her side with his claws, although he had ended up getting thrown off by her incessant shaking and flapping of those obnoxious wings. Still, he had landed quite a few hits, and he was proud.
And to be completely honest, Esther felt a little bubble of pride swell in her chest as she watched Harley battle. Of course she herself had a bit of battling experience, but not with this beautiful shiny Glameow. But right next to that bubble of pride was a little bit of affection growing for that spunky Ledyba. That Ledyba was such a sweetie. Honestly, Esther just didn't want to call out attack commands for Harley. Maybe he'd understand later. But what she really wished right now was that the battle went on just long enough so that maybe she could capture the Ledyba. wouldn't that be nice? Then maybe the Ledyba would understand as well. Hopefully.
Harley didn't share any of Esther's feelings or thoughts. He wanted this battle over with, to show the Ledyba that he was better than she was on so many levels. So when he saw the other Pokemon tuck in (kamikazi style) for another Tackle attack, he, too, launched himself. He decided that a head-on collision would cause enough damage to shorten the battle time by at least half. Right? Of course, it didn't occur to him that while he had no way of maneuvering in the air, the Ledyba had working wings. And that such as risky move heightened the chance of the Ledyba landing a critical hit. Ohwell. Too late now: Harley had already gotten into a running start. Just when they were close enough, Harley jumped, snaring (not-so-threateningly), claws out in a Scratch attack. He closed his eyes for the impact, anticipating it, and he felt something hard smash into his head, although he also felt his claws rake against something. Now he just hoped that he had actually hit the Ledyba instead of having jumped into a tree. That would just be embarrassing.

OoC// Your help is much appreciated, Luca. Thank you. However, next time please do not jump into a thread and instead tell us in the cbox or PM one of us, it helps keep things in the thread neat.
...WOW that was formal. Weird.
BiC// The wind rushed past the Ladyba as she plummeted towards Harley. Out of subconscious fear, she had squeezed her eyes shut adter confirming her beeline for the Glameow, not seeing his attempt to strike back. At this point, a collision between the two was up to a certain amount of chance and luck...
Which was on Harley's side today, albeit double-edged. With a loud CRACK, the Ledyba slammed right into him, causing damage but trapping her with him and his claws for the rest of the flight. She felt his claws dig in once more and let out a sharp yell of surprise. Immediately, her efforts went towards flapping her wings and failing her arms in order to get Harley off so he would stop scratching her. The two eventually crashed to the ground, Harley being squashed briefly between the bug and the ground. The Ledyba began to fly off in an attempt to flee, hurting quite badly, but it seemed that her strength was failing her and she simply could not move in a straight line let alone escape. Her gaze floated back to the Glameow and despair set in as the outcome of the battle became all too clear. Instead of attacking, she simply watched Harley for a moment until her endurance ran short and her eyes fluttered shut. The slumping of her body to the grass below signaled the end of the battle and Harley's first victory.
Wild Ledyba was hit! Wild Ledyba fainted! It can now be caught.
Harley has won the battle! Harley has gained one level of experience. Harley learned Growl! ...errr, Fake Out! Err-whatever. HE KNOWS THREE MOVES NOW.
OoC// OH LAWD HE'S DONE IT. I thought about drawing it out for another post but ehhh. I think you've earned her. =D UM. And you can just tack on Fake Out and keep Growl, since Harley gained the level and that gets him to where he would have learned Growl. So it's all good. =3[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Esther was a little heartbroken. She definitely didn't think that Harley needed to fight. There was no justification on it. Not really. Unless he wanted to prove himself, but that wasn't necessary either. Still, she couldn't go out and stop Harley. It wasn't like she hadn't ever owned Pokemon before. Some of them just have a need to prove themselves and Esther just guessed that Harley was one of those Pokemon, despite him acting all high and mighty. So when the Ledyba collapsed between the grass and Harley just triumphantly flicked an ear, Esther knelt down and called him over. With a satisfied look, Harley sauntered over to her, weaving his way to the grass. With a huff, he hopped into her arms, where he got a quick scratch behind his ear and a "you did a good job, Harley." And he did. He had gone through an entire battle--albeit a little rough--without any of her help. The Glameow purred and rubbed the top of his head against the underside of Esther's chin before slinking his way onto her shoulders, where he settled down.
Now to deal with the Ledyba. Esther had already taken a liking to the Pokemon before the battle, and she was sure that if she had her own way, then she would have tried to talk the wild Pokemon into joining her party. But Harley had decided to take matters into his own hands, which Esther decided wasn't totally a bad thing. She pushed up into a standing position and walked over to where the Ledyba was and knelt down, sitting on her heels. "i'm really really sorry," she muttered before taking out a brand new Pokeball and tapping the Ledyba's head with it. In a flash of red light, the Pokemon disappeared into the capsule and it wasn't long before the center blinked, signaling that the Ledyba had stopped struggling and had accepted defeat. Almost immediately, Esther picked up the Pokeball and released the Ledyba from inside it. The Pokemon definitely looked a little confused and lost, but seeing Esther seemed to brighten her up a little.
Ledyba! the Pokemon called out happily, though at the site of Harley, she hardened up again. With a little hmph, she turned her back on the feline Pokemon (though he only reacted with an annoyed flick of an ear) to face Esther again.
"Oh hey, Ruby," Esther greeted, naming the Ledyba on the spot and ignoring the little interaction between Harley and the Ledyba--now Ruby. As the Ledyba squealed in agreement with the name choice, Esther dug through her bag once more, this time to bring out an oran berry. It would at least do a little bit of healing so that if they encountered another Pokemon, the Ledyba could fight and Esther could get the hang of fighting with her new Pokemon. Sure she had Levi, but it was still bright out, and she wasn't too sure that she wanted to force the Ghost Pokemon to fight in a place he was uncomfortable with. Well, that and she wanted to get to know Ruby a little better. As the Ledyba munched on the blue berry, Esther whispered "Don't mind Harley, he's just a sourpuss. And I was rooting for you throughout the battle." Esther couldn't tell if Ruby could understand anything she said, but the Ledyba could tell by the tone of Esther's voice that it wasn't anything bad. So she giggled and cast the Glameow a glance, though he was still pretending she didn't exist, he flicked the tip of his tail, glancing Esther's chin.
I see what you mean, the Ledyba whispered back, finishing off the berry. Already she felt a little better, and she had thought of offering a piece to Harley before deciding against it. He had been rude, after all. So, with her wings buzzing, she hovered around Esther and engaged in a strange conversation (the kind where one didn't really understand what the other was saying).
After taking a quick detour toward the Battle Arenas (where Harley fought well and received a battle wound), Esther made her way back to the High Prairie. With the sun sinking lower and lower and Harley resting in his Pokeball, Esther strolled along, too intrigued in a conversation with Ruby to notice anything.
