Name:
Danion Yunth
Nickname(s):
Khal Ahrike
Age:
Nineteen (19)
Gender:
Male
Occupation:
Trainer
Appearance:
Khal, as he prefers to go by, is a very wiry-built person. His body has very little excess fat; it's nearly all lithe muscle and sinew. He's physically quite tough, able to endure a great deal, which is obvious by the many, varied scars that litter his person.
Also made obvious by those scars is the fact that he doesn't go out of his way to avoid trouble.
Khal likes casual clothes. Plain, hardy shirts, shorts, jeans, tank tops, sneakers, boots... He rarely bothers with anything dressier, or with any accessories.
He carries a rather beat-up looking black and white backpack, which holds the usual things a Trainer carries: Pokeballs, medicines, whatever TMs, HMs or Berries he's come across, extra clothes, supplies of water and food...
He's at a respectable height of six feet exactly - not counting the long, large ivory white horns curving up out of his hair and over his head.
They make wearing hats difficult.
Khal is not someone you forget in a hurry, even if you just see him passing you by on the street - y'see, he's a Houndoom Pokemorph.
Black fur covers most of his skin, every inch of it - except for where it's a red-orange color, mostly over the middle of his torso (middle of lower chest, belly and upper abdomen) and the lower section of his face, starting under his eyes and ending where his head attaches to his neck.
Khal's fingernails and toenails are rather harder and pointier than most people's, as are his teeth. He generally walks on the balls of his slightly oddly shaped feet and his toes, like his canine counterpart. His ears taper a bit to a point (though Houndoom has no visible ones). All of his pants and shorts have been modified to allow freedom for his long, whipcord, arrow-tipped tail.
Khal also has a Houndoom's bone skull 'necklace' around his neck, as well as the 'bracelets' around his wrists and ankles, and the three thick strips of bone across his back.
His eyes are a dull dark red color, and his hair is straight and black, just brushing his shoulders.
And now, let's examine in detail how being a 'Morph affects his life...
First off, he tends to eat a great deal more meat than most. He avoids veggies mostly (he likes fruits sometimes), and bread things are so-so. Sweets are an absolute no.
He has a fairly high metabolism, and in general, eats a lot. Who doesn't like to eat, anyway?
Khal dislikes the wet and cold very much, and is affected by Pokémon attacks dealing with such. He's completely immune to Psychic abilities of any kind, be they simple illusions or full-out attacks on his mind.
Heat doesn't bother him at all. He could hang around in a desert for a few weeks and be perfectly happy. The sand would probably get annoying after a while, though, as it's somewhat of a chore to take care of all that fur.
Speaking of the fur, yes, he does have 'winter' and 'summer' coats and sheds, and yes, he does wash it and brush it, though the brushing is usually only a half-hearted attempt, leaving him looking a bit ragged most of the time.
Khal is somewhat stronger, more flexible, more agile, ect. than other people, as well as being able to hear, smell and see better in the dark. His eyes are close to normal in clarity and sharpness the day time, and no, he can't see color very well. He can see it, yes, it's just harder for him to distinguish different shades and tones and such, and some he can't see at all.
Khal's inherited a few other traits, as well.
He is affected by Flash Fire and Early Bird abilities. For Flash Fire, he's entirely unhurt by flames of any kind. He could sit down in a burning building and it would be fine (though he'd have to look out for falling debris). If he is hit by a flame attack by someone who he considers an enemy or rival, it'll give him an energy boost. Obviously, he'd get more power if something hit him with a Flamethrower than if they threw, say, a candle at him. The candle wouldn't do much at all.
As for Early Bird, well... He doesn't need to sleep as much. Just a few hours is fine, most of the time... and he's a light sleeper.
He can understand the speech of Fire - and Dark-Type Pokemon, as well as canine ones.
Can he do anything else? Well, yes. He can breathe small amounts of smoke and fire... But he has to be extremely careful with the fire when he's angry - it does the same as a real Houndoom's... For those of you who don't know, here's the Pokedex entry:
The flames it breathes when angry contain toxins. If they cause a burn, it will hurt forever.
Thankfully he isn't able to spit a lot of fire, nor is it very powerful, but he still has to be careful.
Anyway.
Khal often growls, snarls, whines and uses other canine-like sounds, and movements; if you watch his ears and tail, you'll see what I mean.
Personality:
Khal has a very fierce nature.
He is one of the few very rare beings who truly do not care a whit what anyone else thinks of him. He is bold and uninhibited, unrestrained, will change his ways for no one, is painfully, bluntly truthful when asked questions of any kind, says what's on his mind in any situation, and unconcerned whether or not others feelings are hurt by his lack of tact.
He does exactly what he wants to do, how and when he wants to do it, regardless of what anyone else deems it. Who cares if that prim lady over there is horrified by his 'inappropriate behavior'? Who cares if he's getting strange looks from the local kids?
He has absolutely no diplomacy, though he is a fairly good liar. Not one subtle bone in his body; his plans tend to be straight-forward and solid, though not always simple. He also hates it when someone tries to control him - perhaps a mental form of something similar to claustrophobia.
Khal's not purposely rude or cruel, but he certainly does grate on some people's nerves and make them want to shred their hair.
As far as relationships with others, Khal takes them as they come, and lets them go as they will. He's not aching for company, nor is he antisocial. He can take or leave most people. He won't turn down a friendly conversation, but he's also not actively interested in forging bonds. If he does want to, he does so either very slowly, or lightning fast; there is no in-between for Khal.
He's never really had a friendship (unless you count family members) that was anything deep or true, but if he did, that person would find that he is incredible loyal and steadfast, and would happily break any number of rules or laws to insure their happiness and safety.
He can be mildly possessive/jealous and somewhat selfish if things get to a certain level, but if you give him a hard enough kick he'll drop it, after he's sulked for a while. Perhaps he's acting as the Alpha, guarding and demanding of his pack.
He's not a gentle person, and though he doesn't shy away from or lock up his emotions (he knows it's best to acknowledge that he's not a robot or he could end up with problems), he is not the best person to come to for comfort or advice. He is, on the other hand, the person to see if you're his friend and you need someone's butt kicked.
Be warned: Khal is not an easily trusting person. He has a very, very long memory, and though it is possible to earn his forgiveness, he never forgets.
Khal is fairly intelligent and sharp. He can put the pieces together as well as anyone else, though he's no genius. He does have a healthy amount of suspicion in him, despite his forever brash ways.
One thing that he is, however, is relentless; once he gets it into his head to do something, he will not let it go until it's completed to his satisfaction.
Khal has a slow fuse. He's annoyed or irritated easily enough and snaps a bit, but does not really loose his cool and is not truly angered by much at all. However... if you manage to get him mad, watch out. He has a bad temper, when it's been blown.
He takes a fair deal of pride and invests much care in what he considers his, be it a gift of some sort, a thing he made, his Pokemon, his friends, his own talents... He will tolerate teasing and rivalry to an extent, but if things get too heated he will jump to the defense of whatever or whoever it is that's being slandered without a second thought.
He can be utterly ruthless and downright nasty when he gets into it, whether 'it' is a battle of words or fists. He won't hesitate to savage any weak spots he finds, and unless he realizes that he went too far (or unless he feels the person deserved it), apologies will be a long time coming.
History:
Khal was born a normal human, under the name Danion Yunth, and grew up in the streets - yes, streets - of both Goldenrod and Saffron City. He went back and forth between them a lot when he was actually returning for a rest, and came to consider both places his hometown(s).
His family were an interesting lot. They were thieves.
They weren't Robin Hood types, nor were they an 'organized crime' group. They were just normal people trying to survive using their preferred... ah, profession.
I said 'trying to survive' on purpose.
They weren't a wealthy family. They didn't really have a house, partly because they moved around a lot both for safety and job reasons, so they made due with what they came across, and with what their Pokémon could provide to help.
Khal's family group consisted of his parents, his father's twin and only other sibling, his first cousins on his mother's side (his mother's only sister and her husband was dead), and his own siblings.
They were close-knit. They were content, they worked very well together, the kids were taught all manner of interesting things (not just thieving skills) from day one (not literally), and they were never caught.
Almost never.
The first time one of them was caught, it was one of Khal's cousins. The second time, it was his father. After that, the family had to get running, because people were suspicious of them...
A month later and a sibling lost (caught on a brief trip into town), it was Khal who discovered that they had been set up.
They had had to risk another trip into town, sending only Khal and his uncle (they were the best of them left),when he overheard two people who were dressed all in black and white suits talking.
Enraged, Khal hissed the new information to his uncle when they were on the return journey.
That had been a mistake.
You see, Khal's uncle had always been jealous of his father for marrying his mother... see where I'm going with this? His uncle had always been the most reclusive of their group...
Turns out he was betraying them to Team Rocket, who wanted the family of thieves either out of the way or in their fold. Apparently Khal's parents had been approached a few times with invitations to join, and had rejected them, so...
When they came back to their camp, Khal had little time to recognize that they were surrounded by people like the pair he'd heard whispering before he was hit with a dart and blacked out.
Next thing he knew was pain, and strange sensations... Foreign sensations that a body should never know. Like horns and a tail growing out of you, or fur spreading in little waves like wind-blown grass over your skin, or your teeth and nails hardening, your senses and innards changing...
Khal doesn't know what happened to the rest of his family. He has a hunch, however, that they were experimented on as well.
Khal was put through various torturous tests for a few months, but then apparently was deemed a failure because he wasn't able to use Houndoom's attacks or something.
That's all pretty much a blur, though. See, they tried to do a semi-Psychic (a machine made to imitate the effects of a Psychic Pokemon) mind-wipe on him and then dumped him into the farthest forest they could find.
All that did was scramble his memories a bit. It wasn't the same as a Pokémon attack, so it did affect him some, but not enough. He stumbled around in the forest for a while before he found a town.
After scaring the crap out of the townspeople, he decided to lay low for a while and figure out what the heck he was supposed to do now.
It took him a while to get used to his new body and abilities, especially with the freaked out and disgusted people of the small town about, but eventually he did and went on a search for his family.
He did all he could, everything from finding his parents' contacts to actually trying to track them with his nose, when he found anything resembling a Rocket base (not that he could actually get into it...).
Heartbroken, he moped around and recovered slowly for the next few months before finally getting a new name and legal crud (not like anyone could recognize him now anyway, seeing as how, er, different he looked), swiping enough cash to buy the first boat ticket he could find, hoping for a new start and heading out for this place. The Lanorae Region.
