the outside&&
All in all, Lyra has the potential to be at least "pretty" by definition. That is, if she dressed properly, didn't slouch, didn't squint at everyone in an ugly way, and actually made attempts to tame her hair. Said hair is dark brown, a centimeter or two above her shoulders. Towards the top of her head it starts out tame, but the closer it gets to her shoulders the more it sticks out. Her brown-eyed squint is usually only substituted by a steely glare, and perhaps if she didn't glare so venomously at everyone you'd be able to see her "pretty" brown eyes. She doesn't give a constipated crap either way.
As for build, she has a feminine build, and yet she doesn't. The forementioned slouch is very evident, her shoulders often tensed as if she's ready to jump at you. Although she has that hourglass shape, it's not very important because of the way she carries herself as if she has to drag herself around on a leash. The way she'd describe her lower half is, of course as "thunder thighs."
Finally, she dresses rather eccentrically; compared to other girls, anyway. Whereas other girls boast form-fitting shirts and glittery, flirty letters on their chests, she boasts... Nothing, basically. She wears a large, dark blue baggy hoodie over a low-cut black shirt; she doesn't feel comfortable wearing the shirt in public, so she pulls the hoodie on over it. Her pants are brownish-tan, with cream edges. She doesn't care whether she matches or not, so her sneakers are plain boring old black. It makes the dirt less visible.
the inside&&
Perhaps what earned her the nickname "Fluffy" at her old school, she's very cynical. Every word that comes out of her mouth is either a joke or a view on her depressing outlook on the world. She's not happy, bubbly, giggly, or worried about fitting in; thus, she doesn't fit in. The guys would probably think of her as one of them if they didn't think it was so weird to know a girl who acts like a guy 24/7.
Speaking of which, she does "guy" things; Video gaming, reading fantasy books and not romance books, napping lazily on the couch in front of the muted tv, and, well, not wearing any makeup whatsoever. Her mind works in dirty ways, another thing usually attributed to guys.
The final thing that sticks out about her immediately is this; nerd. That is her definite stereotype. She loves to read and write, being a superb writer for her age. She knows more of the english vocabulary than most fourteen or fifteen year olds; because of how much she reads, she's better at grammar and spelling. She's better at describing things in whole. She understands what to do in math and remembers her history lessons like a computer. Because of this she tends to be a bit like a walking textbook, especially when it comes to Pokémon training.
the past&&
Lyra was born to a mother and father soon to be divorced. She has an older brother by about three years, who was always more popular and successful than her, just because it was "cool" for a guy not to conform to society's standards. He was basically the family's golden child, whereas she always had to settle for second best.
At school, she was neither liked nor disliked. As a younger girl she fit in much better because of how nobody was really sure what society's standards really were. By second grade she had three best friends; Tori, Thurman, and Jordan. In fourth grade was really when it started; she admits to being a bit of a tease and a bully. She never tried to hurt anybody, it just somehow happened. She didn't realize other people were hurt by things she wasn't hurt by. She was only trying to be friendly in the only way she knew how to.
In fifth grade her parents refered her to the school counselor. This was really when Lyra became aware that her class clown status was not liked by her teachers. She tried to be nicer to people, but instead they saw this as a weakness and began stepping on her. Suddenly insults began to surface, insults about her. The most common used word was 'ugly.'
She didn't really care, but when her friends began to turn to these methods she knew it had to stop. In sixth grade it steadily got worse, until it seemed everyone was against her. Growing tired of the teachers and how the world seemed to always be against her, her grades got worse and worse. Soon she was failing every class but math. Distressed, her parents looked into moving her to another school district. She lived out sixth grade, and moved on to seventh grade in a new school. She was separated from her friends but boundaries that could not be broken, but at least her grades had improved. But still nobody accepted her.
For her thirteenth birthday, she ran away to start her journey as a Pokémon trainer. Her parents refused to let her go, not trusting her one bit. But it was her one chance at actually being good at something, so run she did.
