Rangers are considered to be Lanorae's resident law enforcers and environmental wardens. People who follow this occupation generally forge a very close emotional bond with their starter, which is referred to as their "partner Pokémon", to a point where they seem to almost be soulmates.
Rangers are also known for being the most ritualistic of the occupations available due to several years of tradition that have been passed on. They have a single leader that serves as the head of the entire organization, as well as sub-leaders that reign over each of the sub-classes within the organization: the Sky Riders, Wave Runners, and Land Striders.
RESTRICTIONS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rangers tend to be a bit more selective as to who they allow in simply due to the potentially dangerous situations that come with the job. They also require complete loyalty, thus the ranger occupation must be your primary occupation.
Age. All recruits must be aged at least
sixteen or higher. The organization considers anyone younger than that to be too young to be accepted into training.
II. Partner Pokemon. A ranger's partner Pokemon must remain on their team at
all times, and under no circumstances may be placed into storage. The bond between a ranger and a partner Pokemon is considered to be sacred, thus it is looked down upon for someone to "forsake" it in such a way. It's not uncommon for a partner Pokemon, if small enough, to remain outside of its pokeball constantly as well.
III. Pokémorphs. Rangers regard Pokémorphs, like most other organization, with a very high degree of suspicion, thus it's unlikely for many at all to be accepted into the ranks. While it's not impossible like it is for the Omega Syndicate, most Pokémorphs will have to prove they can be trusted before they are allowed in.[/ul]
STARTING OFF---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rangers have a very deep-rooted tradition when it comes to choosing starter Pokemon. In fact, recruits have very little say in what Pokemon they will receive as their partner save for the decision in which of the sub-classes within the occupation that they wish to follow. Each sub-class covers a certain terrain type, though Land Striders tend to be more varied than Wave Runners or Sky Riders simply because of the full range of land-living Pokemon.
Please note that the ranger starter can only be influenced by the shiny starter option from the Shoppe, not the rare starter option.
After a ranger recruit has chosen which sub-class they wish to follow, they, along with generally five to ten other recruits, will be presented to a selection of Pokemon that have shown interest in the recruits. It is then up to the Pokemon to choose who their partner will be, not the trainer. It is believed that this way of partnering offers to forge a stronger bond between Pokemon and trainer rather than if the trainer was to simply pick whatever Pokemon they wished as a partner.
II. After the partnering takes place, rangers are generally given a dorm within the main ranger headquarters that they may use as their personal base, though it's possible that rangers may not see their dorm often based upon how frequently they are called out into the field. Generally there is also a pack of supplies located in the dorm to start the new ranger off as well. Senior rangers are normally not even stationed at the main base and are instead stationed in additional areas more suited to their Pokemon's skills.[/ul]
The standardized starter kit includes
five potions,
two full heals,
three antidotes, a
communicator, and
1,000 credits. As training is not a primary part of being a ranger, it is expected that you buy your own supplies for such purposes.
RANGER RANKINGS---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rangers are broken down into three main sub-classes which are named based on what the rangers involved specialize in, be that aerial, marine, or land surveillance. This specialization is what also determines the type of Pokemon that may be your partner.
- Sky Riders are aptly named for the fact that they specialize primarily in aerial surveillance and action. Sky Riders generally have no fear of heights and will eventually become adept in riding large flying Pokemon. Therefore, most of their partners tend to be birds or dragons which have a large final form. Common examples are Pidgey, Spearow, and Charmander.
Wave Runners - Wave Runners specialize in underwater exploration and rescue, thus they are generally capable swimmers with no fear of deep depths. Wave Runners are commonly called upon to aide stranded ships and also to keep order on any threats of piracy, therefore, their partners are almost always water-types or Pokemon that are capable swimmers. Common examples are Buizel, Squirtle, and Tentacool.
Land Striders - Land Striders are the broadest group within the rangers as they fill in all the gaps that the Wave Runners and Sky Riders fail to cover. Commonly, police officers are Land Striders who specialize in law enforcement, while many tend to serve on search and rescue missions. Their partners also tend to be the most diverse, ranging from canines to even large saurians. Common examples are Growlithe, Pichu, Ponyta, and likewise.[/ul]
Of course, there are also personal ranks within the organization that form a system of skill level. Generally, higher-ranked rangers are considered to be more adept and learned in their position and are thus permitted to go on missions with a higher risk.
- The leader is the head of the entire ranger organization and generally keeps things in order as well as serves as a universal contact for people that need aide. The leader is generally the first to know about any help that's needed and is considered to be the most adept ranger in the entire organization.
Group Leader - Group leaders are the individual leaders in charge of each of the three sub-classes: Sky Rider, Wave Runner, and Land Strider. They are considered to be only slightly lesser in rank than the leader, and are much more specialized in their assigned group. Generally, they serve to keep the class they are in charge of in order as well as provide advice and guidance for those under them that need it.
Senior Ranger - Considered to be among the best rangers in their class, veteran rangers generally interact directly with group leaders and serve as additional guidance when needed. They are usually sent on the most specialized and dangerous missions where their skills may be needed.
Ranger - Rangers make up the bulk of the organization. They are generally capable of doing what is necessary and know what is required of them at all times. They usually take medium-ranked missions, though some particularly notable individuals may take on more dangerous missions as well.
Recruits - Recruits are generally rangers who have just received their partner and haven't quite found their place in the organization. They generally take on the least dangerous missions in order to make themselves aware of their capabilities.[/ul]
RANGER LIFE---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While rangers may take on sub-occupations, such as training or coordinating, their first priority is always to their leader and order they are expected to keep in the region. Therefore, most are expected to at least contact headquarters when possible and check in to ensure their aide is not needed. Close tabs are normally kept on all rangers in hopes to prevent any insurgence from criminal organizations such as the Omega Syndicate.
Mission-based. Rangers are expected to complete missions when their aide is needed in order to advance in rank. This is normally done by checking in to the main headquarters to inquire about any aide that is needed in their present vicinity.[/ul]
