Mmkay. I remember there was a thread JUST LIKE THIS before, but I can't remember if it was on here or on Kanoa. I couldn't find it and I kind of need a more... up-to-date opinion about it, so here I am.
As you may or may not know, I don't have a DS. Period. Like, not even the old, klunky model. My parents are convinced that I've outgrown video games - AHAHAHAHA AS IF. I know, I know, it's a shame and I should banish myself to the netherworld for such a sin, but it's been out of my control. Now that I have a special something called a JOB, though, I can buy one myself! Neato, huh? That was my plan when I set out to GameStop with my checkbook in hand.
And then I got there, and I saw the MASSIVE price difference in the DSi and DS Lite. If I got a used Lite, it'd be $89.99, meanwhile a new DSi is $179.99 (I don't know the price for used, there wasn't any listed so I don't know if there are even any to sell). Now. This poses a question: Is the extra $90ish dollars (if you consider tax) worth it? Okay. I get a camera and some WiFi. The screen's brighter and the console's lighter, and it takes less time to charge. But the DSi does not have the GBA adapter and it has a shorter battery life, it'd be far too easy to lose the smaller stylus, and god knows how good (or rather, bad) the camera's quality is or how functional the internet is. Also, there are the DSi games to consider. Is it going to be a short phase, like iToy, and become a waste of money for me to make sure I can play those? Or are strictly DS games going to get phased out?
Obviously, this is quite difficult for me to decide. I would like some opinions from you guys who own either the Lite or the DSi, OR have been in the same situation as me. If you know anything that might help make my decision, whether it's positive or negative, I ask that you post it. Please. I want to make my choice right after Christmas so I can buy it when prices drop.
Please and thank you!
Love always, Andi~
P.S. Yes, this means that I have not played Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. I plan to remedy this immediately after getting the darn thing. I've started Diamond several times with an emulator, but... it doesn't like to save consistently. XP
P.P.S. I think this is the most formal I've even been with you guys. Ever. Daaaang. 'COS SHOPPING IS SRS BIZNISS. B|

Ah, the timeless question of buying the more update version or keep with the still good one.
Now, I understand buying a new one if they come up with a new console cause they are creating games differently like DS games are like those little chips. But when they are trying to improve on the console without changing the game, I think the best thing to do is keep with the older version. I like the DS Lite cause it sort of the best of both world as it isn't so thick like the first one, but doesn't have the added features that you really don't even need.
Unless you want to use the camera...
I really think the DS Lite is the best because you will be able to play even more games than with the DSi. You can play Game Boy advance games and the DS ones. As you said yourself, you can only play DS games on DSi.
Hopes this help a bit ^^;

ew, ew, ew... DS Lite=waste of money, DSi=super waste of money you know what i have? one of these and it's worked fine for me ever since i bought it from my friend for 60$ 4 years ago i say, if you can just get one of the old "clunky" one, the products aren't that different, and it will save you money also, if you didn't know, there's no GBA slot in the DSi, which means no transferring your R/S/E/FR/LG mons to your DS games

ANDI YOU HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT.
i know friends who have all of them, and really, the DSi's camera feature kind of loses fun after the first... hour or so of fiddling around with it. i mean, yeah there are specific games just for the DSi, but i don't think i'll be missing out. like spider, i've had one of the old clunky ones (BABYBLUE, YES?) ever since it came out, and it works perfectly fine. i've also heard that both the DSL and DSi have problems with the L and R buttons.
so if you must, go cheap and frugal. but if you can, get the original. ;3
SHOPPING FOR A DS IS EVEN BIGGER SRS BIZNESS.

This may not make much of a difference, but they stopped making the original one and, yes they are the best, they will disappear before Christmas at such a cheap price. My Game Stop doesn't even sell the original DS because it is so popular. And as Rex said the DSi is a one hour joy. My friend sold his and bought the original. He lives it a way lot more. As for the DS lite, my friend broke it as she kept her GBA game in it and it snapped the thin plastic part in the back that holds it in. So now there is a lot of duct tape on it. So Original DS all the way... And warning, be careful with all of the DS versions, do not bend the screen back past the second click too much.
Story mode: My cousin stole my DS and sold it to his friend. When I got it back the top screen kept flashing out and now it is practically unable to be played without it freezing or not showing the top screen. A horrible thing for Pokémon games as you should know...

yeah, it'll be hard to find originals anywhere. but i like them because they're a little sturdier than the DSL and DSi. I've drop-kicked mine on accident and it has no scratches!
you might be able to find them used on ebay or amazon? (craigslist, maybe? xD) or find someone who's willing to sell you theirs. c:
D: ry, that sucks!
