LISTEN TO THE WINDS OF PROGRESS
Evolution is one of the key signs of maturity in many Pokémon. While some individuals prefer not to evolve, and others don't even have the option, others have multiple evolution chains they can follow. However, perhaps even more varied than the extent of the evolutions, is how many ways these evolutions can happen, which can be found here.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL EVOLUTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level, or "normal" evolution deals solely with levels and it is the most common form of evolution you will see in the Lanorae region. Level evolutions can be canceled, be it by the choice of the trainer or the Pokemon, or their effects can be negated completely by holding an
Everstone.
The levels each Pokémon evolves can be found on either Serebii or in the info thread in the Lanorae Pokédex should it be one of the Lanorae native Pokémon. Once your Pokémon reaches the correct level, your moderator will alert you that your Pokémon is ready to evolve and you will be given the choice to allow the evolution or not.
If the evolution is permitted, then there will be an evolution sequence which ends with your Pokémon successfully evolving. However, the max level any Pokémon can reach is level one-hundred.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STONE EVOLUTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some Pokémon do not evolve via level but rather use evolution stones to reach their next stage. As long as you have the correct stone, you can evolve these Pokémon at any time in the roleplay, however, make sure it is what you want for stone evolutions cannot be stopped.
Once your Pokémon achieves their evolved form through stone evolution, the stone becomes unusable. It is still there, but it cannot be used again thus most of the time it is disposed of, though some people may use it for jewelry or another purpose, and some stores will take used evolution stones.
Please note, however, that some Pokémon will no longer learn any new moves after they have evolved with a stone. So, for example, if you evolve your Pikachu into a Raichu at level five, it will never learn another move on its own, unless there are moves available on Raichu's level-up list. So choose when to evolve wisely! A Pokémon may be able to remember all of it's level-up moves on Lanorae, but it has to learn them first!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ITEM EVOLUTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some Pokémon also evolve while leveling up holding items (Sneasel into Weavile while holding a Razor Claw for example). The Pokémon will evolve the next level after being given the item, if other necessary requirements are met if that be the case. This evolution can to be stopped if the trainer wants it to be, but it will continue trying to evolve every level after until the item is taken away. The only sure way to prevent such an evolution is to simply not give the Pokémon the item to begin with.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ATTACK EVOLUTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A curious variety of evolution, attack evolution means that a Pokémon must know a certain attack in order to evolve. Once the Pokémon acquires the needed attack it will try to evolve the next time it levels up (an example being Lickitung into Lickilicky with Ancient Power). These evolutions can be canceled however, and are affected by an
Everstone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRADE EVOLUTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some Pokémon only evolve if they are traded away, sometimes with items sometimes without (Machoke into Machamp without any items or Seadra into Kingdra if traded with a Dragon Scale). Trading can be done at the Trading Centre, and trade-backs can be arranged with mods, or other members. However, please note that trade evolutions cannot be canceled unless the Pokémon is holding an
Everstone while it is being traded, or in the case of item-dependent trade evolutions, the item is not given to the Pokémon in the first place.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HAPPINESS EVOLUTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Happiness evolution is determined by
happiness status, which is basically like the experience point system. Every time you, say, win a battle, the winning Pokemon's happiness status goes up. However, please note that every time you lose a battle with that Pokémon it goes down. Once your happiness status reaches a certain point, that Pokémon is then free to evolve, though like normal evolution it can either willingly be canceled or canceled through the use of an Everstone.
There are other ways for happiness status to go both up and down, and there are advantages and disadvantages to whether it is high or not, be these are all covered in the linked thread.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TIME EVOLUTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some Pokémon also do not evolve unless it's a certain time of day, however, on most occurrences this accompanies another requirement such as happiness (Riolu into Lucario during the day at full happiness). This can be determined in two ways. Generally, your moderator will go through the day phases in order to allow some variety, thus, you will most likely spend time in both night and day throughout the roleplay, so don't worry, just wait for your Pokémon to evolve, because they will at some point! These evolutions can also be canceled through choice or the
Everstone.
Please note, however, that regarding the Pokémon Cascoon and Silcoon new criteria have been made for their evolution. Rather than being based on personality value, Wurmple will evolve into Silcoon from sunrise to sunset and Cascoon from sunset to sunrise.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AREA EVOLUTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some Pokémon introduced in Diamond and Pearl will not evolve unless trained in specific areas (Eevee into Leafeon at Moss Rock). We still support this idea here, however, there will be certain areas made to simulate such occurrences scattered throughout the region. Just keep an eye out!
