Guys, I'll be completely honest, coming back from a nice relaxing few days of camping to a huge debate really isn't what I wanted to do. Yes, you guys brought out different points of view, but the argument's getting stale because it's the same point over and over again.
I was thinking about it, and there's absolutely no way I can get work done on both sites by the 26th now. On SN, I still have to go on and code the profiles, make sure that's all set up, finish the main account system I started, move the random events over, finish the areas, ect. on top of coding a business website for my mom so she can bring money in. I am not going to let things turn into another situation where I promise an opening date, and then we're waiting for another five weeks (especially seeing I have summer work due by August 1st).
If I was coding for both from the beginning, maybe it would have been possible, however, I started putting work and whatnot into Proboards. Plus, all the areas are made already ad whatnot, and people don't need to move anything. I was thinking about it, and it would be selfish of me to sit there and make people move all their stuff over.
Concerning the new/old icons, I'm going to eliminate that column anyway (we wouldn't have them on SpleafNet seeing there's no way to code it in), so I can install a javascript skin selector so it's easy to switch skins around. Eventually we are going to have more skins, it's not like this'll be the only one, so any argument concerning the skins is obsolete seeing this isn't going to be the only one, and it would be the same one currently in use on SN anyway.
As an admin, I have to go with the majority, and as it stands the majority is focused on Proboards. And I'm making up for the fact I don't have a super amount of freedom on the forums themselves by using a website to have extra stuff.
The SN system itself is a step up from Proboards, yes, however, no matter how much anyone says "oh, they're more customizable" the boards are not. They lack a lot of features Proboards has built in already. Visually-wise, yes, they're more customizable, and concerning the features I was willing to just overlook them to make it simpler, but if other people want those features then it is a large headache for me to try to code them in, especially seeing I am not very adept at languages such as javascript yet.
I'm sorry if I sound aggressive or something, but I do want to put an end to the back and forth already, and I am a tad bit irritated to already come back to a back and forth the hour after I get back home.
To put a quick recap down, yes, SN is amazing as far as features go, and I love a wide variety of the ones they have, however, as it stands the majority prefers Proboards, and as admin I have to respect that. Yes, I may have the last say, as it is my site, however, I would be a very poor excuse for an admin if I completely ignored what most people wanted and went directly against that due to my own preference. It would be very selfish of me. I am adapting to using whatever limited features I have to their full capabilities, and I am doing my best to cater to what everyone wants, but at the same time, rather than saying "Oh, such -and-such is better", people need to work with me as well. By that I mean tell me exactly what's wrong and I can do my best to fix it.
