Name: Lisa Rhodes
Nicknames: Liz, "Coil"
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Height: 5' 06"
Birthday: 13th December
Hometown: Goldenrod City
Occupation: Trainer/Musician
Appearance
Liz is a rather strange looking girl – she has the appearance of somebody stretched or “strung out”, she’s tall and thin, but in a way that makes her look rather unhealthy as opposed to anything else. She tends to have big bags under her eyes that give her a strained and tired look, but her broad, energetic grin counteracts this. Despite her frail and unhealthy appearance, she has a constant energy which is difficult to suppress and gives her a fidgety and restless appearance.
She has curly bright-blonde hair falling past her shoulders, which would look more suited to a male than a girl like herself. She is constantly wearing a pair of headphones or earphones, either around her neck or on her ears, though the type, colour and size of these vary as she has a vast collection. Her clothing tends to be bright coloured, and slightly idiosyncratic. She follows the trends of electric gym leader, and wears a long military-esque coat, personalised by bright buttons, cuffs and badges, as well as some tears she ripped herself.
She occasionally attempts to spike her hair when she finds the patience, the results of varying effectiveness. Anybody who keeps up to date on battling magazines will recognise that she follows the trends of popular electric trainers, and mimics their style to an extent. Her bag is stuffed to the brim with her items, and it has several badges of Shinx, Electabuzz and other electric Pokémon stuck on it.
She carries her keytar everywhere with her, and is prone to taking it out and working on some music when she’s bored.
Personality
Liz tends to be very impatient, and she does have a lot of energy. She isn’t, however, an obnoxiously loud person, her energy comes out in her hastiness, and how enthusiastically she can talk about things she has a particular passion for. Her emotional responses tend to be very strong – to the point where she’s been accused of overreacting more than once. Aside from that, she tends to be laid-back, and accepting of people’s differences and flaws.
One of the first things most people learn about Liz is that she is a huge music enthusiast. Across many genres – classical, rock, jazz and techno…but her heart is in trance music. Liz can talk for literally hours about music – her favourite bands, her least favourite, the best concerts she’s been to, the best headphones she’s owned, everything about music you could possibly want to talk about, Liz will basically rave over it for as long as she can.
Though it is obvious that Liz plays music – she very clearly carries her keytar with her and will willingly play a little tune for anybody who wants to hear, what she holds more closely to her chest is that she composes music, and very much hopes to have her music become famous. She goes by the name “Coil” for her compositions, which she records onto her laptop. This is one thing you can hit that Liz will be sensitive to – she’s mostly amused by insults over her appearance, and other things – but her music is a very tender spot for Liz, so she has to trust somebody quite a lot to share a composition with them.
She is somewhat embittered by her complete inability to sing, feeling this impairs her ability to become a fully fledged musician if she can’t put vocals into it.
Her dream is something she holds onto quite firmly, and is probably the one thing she worries about frequently – if she can get signed, if her skills are good enough, if she’s good enough.
Liz also has another obsession, though this is to a lesser degree, she adores electric-type Pokémon. She thinks they are superior to all other types, and nothing can shake her over this. Training has been a loose hobby for her since she was ten, mostly just working with her dad’s pokemon, though she never got as fully into it as her father wished she would. If you were to walk into Liz’s room now, you would see all the things important to her – CDs, records, synths, guitars, keyboards, stereos, headphones, amps, all things that could possibly ever relate to music line and pile up in her room. Her walls are plastered with posters of electric pokemon, electric type trainers (particularly Volkner), and on her shelves and every last bit of space, plushies and figurines of electric type Pokémon. Her fixation on electric Pokémon has something she’s had since she was very young, and she can’t fully explain why she loves them so much.
She hopes to train under an electric-type gym leader some day, though this is wish secondary to her big dream of being a renowned musician.
Liz also tends to be a bit gullible and easily lead, due to her laid-back and sometimes too-idealistic nature.
History
Since she was young, Liz has had a fascination with music. Her uncle was a big fan of music, and it was constant in his house, where she spent most of her time as a kid, while her father travelled, being a semi-well known trainer, and her mother worked. Her uncle was mostly considered a slob and a lazy good-for-nothing, but Liz admired him greatly – he bought her a child’s keyboard and taught her her notes, and she instantly fell in love with this language. He also showed her to play a few chords on the guitar when she grew big enough to hold one.
Her father, however, was very pushy about Liz walking in his footsteps and becoming a powerful trainer – he even spoke of her becoming league champion one day, something he consistently failed to achieve. Liz was highly intimidated by these pressures, never quite understanding battle and strategy fully, and couldn’t at all believe she was capable of anything that big. Her mother wanted her to take a solid, money-earning career and was genuinely very disapproving of her father’s stubbornness in continually entering the league year after year, as he was quickly becoming one of the oldest competitors. She had gone through university and studied hard to get a high-paying job, and advised Liz she do the same - often lecturing her for spending too much time dreaming about things will never happen, and this lead Liz to be somewhat shy about her dreams, and assume the facade of a well-meaning, but ambition-less slob, deciding to keep her ambitions private for fear of being judged or told she would never achieve them. Her mother and her father divorced when she was fourteen.
Liz still feels an understandable distance between her and her parents, particularly her mother, but is still very close to her uncle, often emailing him and sending him her newest works. She decided to leave home, after being shafted once again to her mother’s, and travel Lanorae – both an excuse to get out from between her still-squabbling parents and to collect and train various electric Pokémon. In addition, she hopes to find further inspiration for her music, and quite possibly discover a skilled vocalist.
People - friends and family
Gregory Rhodes -- Father, age 44
Gregory is a skinny, blonde man, similiar in looks to Liz herself. He wears large glasses, and clothes that are stylistically too young for himself. He lives in the past - he is still clinging to his boyhood dream of being the Silver Conference Champion one year, despite continual failures throughout his career. He struggles to settle down and was constantly out of Liz's life throughout her childhood.
Carrie Pine -- Mother, aged 41
Carrie is a very austere-looking woman - she has the strictness and dry air of a scholar about her. She met Gregory when she was younger and more idealistic - in fact, when they were both young trainers, they saw each other as rivals and fought since they got their first Pokémon. However, Carrie long gave it up to study and go into university studying business, whilst still dating Gregory. Eventually, they married, hoping he would settle down. After a long, strained marriage, they eventually divorced. Carrie now harbours a resentment towards Pokémon training, and is bitter. She constantly discourages Liz, and Liz is very distant from her.
Thomas "Tommy" Rhodes --- Uncle, aged 31
Tommy is the main influence on Liz's life, despite only being her uncle. Tommy is a slacker - unable to hold a respectable career, and never being interested in Pokémon training, he is subject to the disdain of his brother, and Carrie. He has a love of music only surpassed by Liz's own, and has an accepting, open nature. He is a pothead, but quiet about his habits due to the fact he is already an object of scorn amongst his family.
