Esther could tell right off the bat that Harley absolutely did not want to do this. The arena was disgusting and nasty and muddy. He was not going to step into that willingly. The Swamp Arena definitely lived up to its name. Esther hadn't ever gone in a swamp before, but this was definitely how she would have imagined it. The still water was a dirty brown, murky and looking as if there could be things living in there. Slimy things. Icky things. Dirty things. And it all smelled. Not a particularly bad smell, per say, but everything was damp and smelled like dirt and the wild. Or at least, Esther imagined that this was what the wild would smell like. To be honest, she definitely would not want to step into that either, but it wasn't her, now was it? "Come on, Harley, I'm sure it won't be that bad," she said, trying to coax the Glameow down from her head and actually into the arena, as she was standing in the trainer area, a little caged platform that reminded Esther of a cherry-picker. She managed to unhook his claws from her hair (and scalp) and hold him an arms length away, ignoring the nasty look he shot her. Of course she didn't think it would be too bad. She wasn't the one who had to step in it and battle in it. Why did she have to choose this stage?
To be honest, Esther thought that this stage was by far the most practical, if they got first pick. The last battle here had proven that the Steam Arena had been... well, not the best, with platforms rising and sinking and getting really confusing with all that steam. Of course, she didn't put into consideration that Harley at least had experience with said Arena and might be better at it than someone who wasn't. The Water Arena was a no, as she was sure Harley couldn't swim. The Desert Arena just didn't suit her, and the Cave Arena certainly was nice for Levi, but she wasn't sure how Harley would fare. So she opted for the Swamp Arena. The description said that it was heavily foliaged, which made it like the Cave Arena in some ways, but wasn't as dark. As she planned on a double battle, it meant that Levi would be able to creep up on the Pokemon and Harley wouldn't have to stumble around in the dark. Of course, she had rather skimmed over the 'stagnant water' part. So when she had filled out the battle request, a double battle in the swamp arena, she had made sure to add that it would be a chance to see a special Pokemon, a shiny one. She wasn't sure if that had helped in getting an opponent so quickly, but she also didn't feel too bad in using Harley like that. He needed the experience, anyway. With such a simple moveset, it would be hard to get him to win too many battles.
Levi hovered at Esther's shoulder, looking quite amused. Harley saw him and bared his teeth, hissing. If Esther hadn't been holding him the way she was, he wouldn't hesitate in charging and taking the Ghost Pokemon out. Of course, the fact that the two were Normal and Ghost types rather negated any damage they could do to one another, which was why Esther decided to pair the two in the double battle. They'd have to put aside their hatred for each other (in Harley's case, anyway) and work together. At least they couldn't fight each other--or at least, if they did, they couldn't damage each other. Fortunately, before the tension between the two rose any further, there was a crackle and a voice that called out, "Are the trainers ready?" Everyone paused to try and search where it was coming from, and Esther spotted a strange intercom system on the wall of the cherry-picker where the voice must have come from. It was then that she realized that she couldn't see where the other trainer was at all. Ah. Well, that wasn't really a problem, but that meant that she wouldn't be able to see their Pokemon either. At least it was also the same for them. "Uh, I'm ready," she said to the intercom, and heard another faint voice that was sure to be the other trainer talking into the intercom as well. At least she'd be able to hear what they said.
There was a small pause before the referee called out again: "Let the battle commence!" At which Esther promptly tossed Harley into the arena with an angry yowl from him, though it was cut off by a rather sticky splash into the water. "Go Harley, go!" she called out encouragingly, with a smile. He hissed at her and tried to shake some of the water off, though it was in vain. Levi cackled as he floated by, completely dry and without a drop of the nasty water on him. Harley growled, though he trudged on, having to stop to try and pull his paw out from the mud underneath every so often. It wasn't long until he gave up and climbed a tree, where he sat on a large branch, trying to clean himself off. Levi floated around him, making a face. At this rate, they were never going to find the opponent's Pokemon, much less get in a battle. So the Shuppet decided to try and search on his own, hiding behind trees and plants, and sometimes in them, as he searched.
