She had issued out a friendly challenge a little while ago, and the female was surprised to see mail waiting in her inbox -- with a reply of interest for said challenge. She had eagerly accepted, and settled a time and date -- now the moment had arrived. It was close to three in the afternoon when she got to the stage that had been reserved, the female anxious as she waited on her side of the arena -- the left side -- for her opponent to arrive. She didn't knew who she was, but she hoped it'd be a nice and fun trainer.
"Are you excited, Lucem?!" "Fireeeeee!"
The Firecub purred in delight as he stood besides his trainer, his old steam-punk style Poke'Ball on his trainer's hands. She smiled, kneeling down to scratch the fire feline, before surveying the arena. She had picked it simply because, out of them all, this one seemed the least likely to hinder her starter Pokémon -- but was it even the right choice? It seemed pretty ok, Rizu just hoped that the rising of the metal plates wouldn't reveal some rather nasty surprises.
"Firecub, fire?" "Mmm? Oh, I'm just a little worried, Lucem. I don't want anything bad to happen to you." "Fire fireee." "I know, I know, you can take care of yourself. Right?"
The fire feline nodded, bumping his head warmly against the trainer's leg to show his affection. Rizu was always worrying about so much, and it wasn't surprising considering the girl seemed to have a magnet for the most unexpected things and situation to happen. But this was a regulated place, watched and monitored, so they should be fine in here. She just needed to be able to feel that way, so her mind would be more into the battle that was soon to come rather on worrying about how many possible ways things could go wrong.
Standing once more she patiently waited for the arrival of her opponent, the Firecub easily moving to step closer to the middle of the "ring" as he awaited to see who would he be battling against.

[/center] It had taken Esther a while to realize that perhaps Harley needed a bit more experience in battles. After all, leveling up was the only way for him to learn more moves. He couldn't possibly get by with just Growl and Scratch. So she had gone over to the Battle Stadium and taken a little look-see through the list of battle requests. She was surprised at how many people there were, and how strong their Pokémon were. She almost felt like the only one with such a low-leveled Pokémon when she finally found someone who requested an opponent with a Pokémon around levels 4-6. Perfect for Harley. Levi needed training too, but his turn would come later. At least Levi had a useful move, but it would take a while for her to be able to train the two against each other. A normal type versus a ghost type definitely wasn't the best match-up in the entire world.
"What kind of opponent do you think she'll be?" Esther asked, making her way to the Steam Arena. The choice in stage hinted that it would be a fire-type Pokemon, but she was less interested in the Pokémon than her opponent. It would definitely be more fun battling against someone who wasn't a tightwad. "Glameow," Harley answered, in such a flat tone that Esther couldn't possibly guess at what he meant to say. At the moment, he was draped over her shoulder--as he always was--looking like he was a mink scarf or something. With a little sniff, he licked a white paw and dragged it over one ear before settling back down and closing his eyes into a nap. But Esther didn't really see any of this, so she continued on, "I think she'll be fun. Maybe really young. Or old, that works too. So long as she's not so... mean. She seemed nice, at least."
Talking to a sleeping Harley was how she arrived at the Arena, where an attendant showed her the way to the stadium. When she walked in, she was rather surprised at how bland it looked. It was just a steel-paneled arena. This might be a little tough, seeing as how Harley had such basic attacks. But then again, so did her opponent. Or at least, Esther hoped she did, seeing as how she requested such a low-leveled opponent. She picked Harley up from her shoulders and settled him down on the ground, where he teetered a little, his legs having no strength to hold him up after just relaxing. But he soon caught his balance and he stood up tall, tail curled high on his rump. As he half-trotted half-walked to the center of the ring, Esther made her way to the outside. She caught sight of her opponent and she waved wildly.
"Hey, you're really cute!" she called out, "Love your shirt!"

Ooc:// I was thinking on maybe a tie? :3 That way it's a win-win for the both of us. And I know, aren't the new sprites absolutely adorable? XDD
"Hey, you're really cute! Love your shirt!" "Eh? Oh! Thank you! I love that jacket you have, it's so cute~!"
She was snapped out of her daydreaming as a voice drifted in her direction from the other side of the arena, the girl focusing to see another girl that looked around her same age range. She waved back merrily, a smile plastered on her features, before squealing slightly in surprise. Was that a shiny Glameow?!
"Eeeeh?! Oh wow, he's so adorble!" "Fireeee..." "Oh, right, sorry Lucem! I'll focus, I promise!"
The Firecub sighed ever so slightly, looking back at his trainer before a faint smile tugged at the corners of his muzzle. She was such a ditz, and adorkable and lovable little ditz. His attention turned back to the new trainer and her shiny Pokemon, watching the purple cat stride closer to the center of the ring.
"Both trainers and Pokémon are accounted for. This will be a single battle, no items allowed! First Pokémon to faint their opponent wins the match. Begin!"
As the referee gave out the call for the battle to commence the female grinned, before nodding in the direction of her starter Pokémon. "Alright, Lucem, let's start things off with a loud Growl!" The orange feline in front of her flickered his tail slightly in acknowledgment, before his tiny jaws parted.
"Fireeeeee!"
The battle had begun.

This wasn't Esther's first battle--she had had a simple career as a Coordinator before--but for some reason it felt as if it was. There was a nervous energy that fluttered in her stomach and made her feel like she wanted to throw up and dance and scream and sing, all at the same time. It wasn't a pleasant feeling, but it wasn't a horrible one either. When the announcer called the start of the battle, she let the other girl start off. It felt like it was the right thing to do--after all, she had requested the battle, so she needed it more, right? Despite it, something in the back of Esther's head told her no, she needed this battle as much as the other girl did. But she just shook the thought away; she needed to focus on the battle right now.
A Growl attack. Esther took this as a sign that the other had a low leveled Pokemon as she did. "Harley, use Scratch!" she called out. As soon as she did, the Glameow charged, hissing and spitting. But the Steel paneling was too slick, and he ended up losing balance, skittering and sliding past the Firecub, just narrowly missing the flame flickering at the end of his tail. Harley let out a shrill cry, trying to stop himself by sticking his claws into the paneling, but all that did was let out a screech, like fingernails running on a chalkboard. Esther cringed, trying to block out the sound by covering her ears with her hand.
"More pad, less claw!" she shouted, still covering her ears with her hands. Having finally skidded to a stop, Harley charged again, this time heeding his trainer's words. Usually he would have pretended to have not heard her, but seeing as how his way didn't exactly work out, he didn't have much of a choice. He'd just pretend it had been his idea all along. He managed to get near the Firecub, where he reared up on his hind legs, front claws unsheathed and ready to slash down on the other Pokemon.

The screeching noise the claws of the Glameow produced against the steel wasn't pretty, making the girl cringe as her hands flung up to cover her ears. The Firecub did something similar as well, crouching down on the floor as his front paws tried to cover his sensitive hearing. Oh god, why had the other feeling done such a thing? Of course, this mean he wasn't able to see the incoming Glameow, and so Harley's attack scored a hit dead on for some good amount of damage.
”Fireee!!!”
The Firecub hissed from the pain, jumping back and away from Harley as he took a moment to lick his new wound. It wasn't deep, but it still stung like hell. His gaze turned back to the shiny foe, his fiery tail flickering in agitation. Harley wouldn't get away with this.
”You ok, Lucem?! ”Fire!” ”Ok, use your own Scratch attack!”
He had less problems than the Glameow to move, his larger paws making it easier to run across the steel plates as he neared Harley and closed the distance between them. A paw was rose high, claws now unsheathed, as he attempted to pay back the Glameow for his strike. Of course, that was if the foe didn't dodge. Deciding to get some space after his attack (unsure if it had truly landed or missed) the Firecub was about to jump back, when one of the plates shut forward to reveal a steam generating machine. A large cloud of steam was suddenly let lose around the field, blurring his vision as the Firecub coughed slightly from the surprise.
Damn it, now he couldn't jump back – and he couldn't see Harley. But hey, Harley couldn't see him too, right? So maybe he wasn't at such a bad disadvantage.

Harley had felt his attack land straight on, knocking into the Firecub's head. It wasn't a very strong hit, but it was a hit nonetheless. There was a new spark of triumph and a battle-hunger in his eyes as he crouched, the cotton tip of his tail twitching in anticipation. He noticed the other Pokemon reaching out a claw to counter the attack, and there was a vague recollection of hearing Esther call out for him to dodge. Of course he was going to dodge. What else would he do? Just sit here and wait for the attack? Of course not. He tensed his hind legs, waiting to dash away at the right moment, when the panel he was standing on flew open, shooting the Glameow's body into the outstretched claw. "Mrowr!" he screeched, as he flew through the air, flailing his limbs as he tried to grab a hold of something. He did eventually, but it wasn't until he landed back onto the arena, maybe having dented the steel paneling a little.
"Harley!" Esther called out, "Are you okay?" She fretted at the edge of the arena, almost wanting to rush in there and drag Harley out and to a PokeCenter. But that would be horrible mannerisms as a trainer, this she knew, so she held back, just shifting her weight from side to side. Her worrying died down a little when she saw Harley slowly pull himself up and shaking his shiny fur. As she let out a sigh of relief, he let out a low growl, blue eyes trained on the orange Feline. As he watched, a paneling shot open, letting out hot steam that stung his eyes and clung to his fur. It was dense and he was sure that he would have been blinded, had it not been for the little flicker of light. The Firecub's tail was like a blinking signal, just asking to be attacked, and it seemed Harley was not the only one to have seen it, for Esther called out for one other Scratch attack.
Keeping his claws sheathed as to not make noise, Harley called upon natural instinct as he flattened himself to the panelings and stalked forward, eyes trained just on the flicker of light. As he neared, he could see the contour of the Firecub's body, and he pounced, screaming and caterwauling as if there was a hound of Mightyena after him.

The flickering flames on his tail were indeed a dead giveaway, and the brunette had realized that as well. However, there was little she or Lucem could do about it. "Lucem, stay put and listen!" It was the best she could come up with. The Firecub understood his predicament, lying low to the ground as he shifed his flaming tail closer to his body. No doubt Harley would use it to find him, so the closer to his body the better.
"Fire... Fire!"
As the shiny Glameow suddenly sprang forth -- latching onto the Firecub and scratching away, the fire type let out a growl to alert his trainer -- since she couldn't see. "Don't let him get away, get him back for every scratch!" Having their foe come to them meant not having to struggle against the steam, and risky setting off another trap, but it was still quite a difficult and uncomfortable position.
As the Glameow landed on his back the Firecub attempted to roll in an effort to detach the cat from his body, before his feline body moved quick and fluid to try and attack the Glameow back with his own Scratch attack. Claws were completely exposed as he also hissed and growled. This certainly gave the expression "cat-fight" a whole new meaning...

Having landed on the Firecub's back, Harley spat and hissed as he raked his claws down the heavy fur, and at the same time trying to hold on. He was on a bit of a battle high--paying no attention what so ever to the fact that the Firecub was twisting and jerking around, trying to unlatch him. He felt large claws scratching at him and paws beating him around as the other tried to pull him away. Then the other feline rolled over onto his back, and he squealed in pain as the larger weight was put onto him. He released his claws from the Firecub and skittered back, claws clicking against the steel paneling as he tried to hide back into the steam. It was a cowardly move, but why not make use of what he had? Settling down, he started licking his wounds, keeping as quiet as he could.
When the sounds of battle died down, Esther felt even more on edge than she had been before. For it could mean anything, but she could definitely still see the Firecub's flame flickering like a beacon in the dense steam. "Harley?" she called out tentatively, getting louder when she was answered by silence, "Harley, are you okay?" Still Harley said nothing. Esther could wait. He wanted to win this battle first. Having tended to all of the scratches--minus one between his shoulder blades that he just couldn't reach--he focused back onto the battle, eyes searching the (slowly dissipating) steam for the Firecub. He slunk forward, paws barely making a noise on the metal sheets. But he seemed to have forgotten where the steam had come from, for when the metal underneath him started sliding away, he jumped in surprise, landing with his claws unsheathed as he tried to grab something.
It seemed he had stepped on a certain trigger, for most of the metal sheets started sliding away, revealing rugged terrain. It was mountainous and rocky, and the stage was raised up when all the metal was out of the way, so that the arena was evened. It did look strange now, though, for some places still had the metal covering while around a third of the arena was covered with hot rocks. Harley had been lucky to land away from the rocks, for he could see the waves of heat rising off of them, hinting that they were hot. Did that mean there was a form of a volcano hidden around here? He hoped not. But the heat from the rocks had caused the steam to disappear completely, turning the atmosphere humid and sticky.
"Glam-meow!" Harley spat irritably, now that he was out in the open with nowhere to hide. Esther was just relived to know that he hadn't been too hurt--the fact that he didn't answer her was forgotten already. "Quick, Harley! Combo Growl and Scratch before the Firecub can regain himself!" A battle was still a battle, and she couldn't let herself get too distracted. With a low rumble that became a thunderous growl, Harley charged through the hot rocks--they stung the pads of his paws--claws ready to rake down the Firecub once more.

It had all happened too fast, the steam still clouding his view -- and while he was a sitting duck with that flame flickering in his tail, the Glameow was always out of his sight and ear shot. The Firecub growled slightly in frustration, he didn't liked being in such a disadvantage on a Pokémon battle -- but neither could he blame his trainer. After all, this arena was full of tricks and surprises, and it wasn't like Rizu had an off button for them. Still, it didn't meant his trainer fell guilty about the whole issue -- even if it really wasn't anyone's fault.
"Lucem, are you alright? I'm sorry, boy, maybe this was a bad idea after all..." "Fire... Firecu- Fire?" "That was Harley, right? What's going o- Oh, look Lucem! The steam, it's clearing up!"
A smile soon replaced her worried expressions as the brunette watched the arena suddenly become more visible again -- revealing that a good chunk of it was now a rather hot rocky surface, while the rest continued to be the metal plate panels that had originally covered it. The Firecub himself gave a pleased purr, his tail swinging softly besides him as he could finally pin-point where, exactly, Harley was.
Speaking of the devil, the Glameow was actually rushing in his direction at full speed -- after releasing a Growl to lower his attack stat.
"Look out, Lucem!" "Fire!!" "Quick, don't let him go away! Scratch back!" "Fireeeee!"
Really, he had good reflexes -- but it was kinda hard to dodge an opponent that was already basically in your face. His attempt at dodging had only managed to make the Firecub trip and expose his underside -- an easy and soft spot that Harley was quick to nail with a nice critical attack. Lucem could feel his energy draining fast, and with a loud grow of discontent he extended his much larger paws, attempting to fling the Glameow off him before trying to pounce on Harley with a retaliation attack of his own.
He might have gotten a good hit, but he wouldn't get away without a souvenir!
"Lucem..." The girl was genuinely worried -- this was their first battle together and she felt she hadn't been able to do more... Then again, perhaps it was just the circumstances. Battling in an arena as unstable as this one, with only basic attacks, couldn't really be a wonderful idea to begin with. She couldn't help but notice the Firecub's tail was glowing brighter than before, much brighter.
It seemed Lucem's Blaze ability had activated. Not that it helped much, seeing as he didn't had any fire based attacks...

Harley was starting to really get into the battle, and it was rather obvious. His movements were more fluid and determined, not just flailing around as he tried not to get dirty. Harley started to really think about what he was doing, and where he planned on making his attacks land, and about how this move might be a better choice than that move. This was what it was really like to be a fighting Pokemon. This was what he wanted to be, always. Esther could see this change in him, even from across the stadium. Seeing him so excited and into the battle got her adrenaline pumping, even though all she was doing was standing on the sidelines shouting commands. It still felt like she was there with him in the battle. His fierceness was a little scary, though, and Esther just hoped that it was just a during-the-battle kind of thing, not something that he'd stick with all the way through.
There was something satisfying about the way that his claws ripped through the Firecub's soft underbelly. It was a little violent, and the feeling even scared himself, but he couldn't help it. With a flip in the air, he landed daintily on all four paws, far away from the hot and rocky terrain that had been exposed by the metal sheets. Harley was at a disadvantage on the terrain, only if because the Firecub seemed to be at home on it.
Harley saw the Firecub's attack coming, as did Esther, but he just ignored her calling for him to move out of the way. His last hit, only because he knew it had done a considerable amount of damage, had turned him cocky. He felt as if he was a better fighter than the Firecub, and this was what led him to be knocked down a few pegs. He thought he could jump out in time, make the other feline look a fool as it landed hard on the metal, but either he had misjudged, or he wasn't able to get a good grip on the smooth metal. But whatever it was, he was suddenly crushed under the Firecub's weight, yowling and screeching.
Harley might have speed on his side, but the Firecub had the better edge when it came to size and weight and sheer power. The large paws were holding him down and claws that were much bigger than his were tearing through his pelt, pulling out fur and raking down his sides. There was a sharp nick in his ears, and Harley just knew that a nick in his ear was a wound that he'd never fully heal from. Just the thought that his image was now ruined fed him enough anger to be able to swipe his extended claws across the Firecub's muzzle. Even if he hadn't actually hurt the Pokemon, the action would have been something surprising nonetheless, and Harley was able to wriggle out from under the Firecub.
Just barely standing, Harley let out ragged breaths, unable to take the pain from that attack. He was already running out of energy--this attack would probably be his last--but he could tell that the Firecub wasn't exactly running on full steam right now either. Gathering up all of his last strength, Harley launched himself at the Firecub, making sure to try and dodge the large flame on the feline's tail.

Ooc:// Hahaha, no worries Rexi-chu~! Enjoyed our battle fully, we must do this again soon once they grow more. Sort of like them testing each other out to see how they're doing. :3 I can totally see Harley and Lucem getting along. ^^
This battle had definitely been exciting, that was for sure.
As he watched the cocky look of the Glameow the Firecub couldn't help but growl in distaste. Really now, this feline already thought he was all that... Lucem would just have to knock that ego of it's a few stages down then. And, seeing as Harley made it so easy, the Firecub soon found himself scratching the living daylights out of the purple furred Pokemon. The Glameow hissed and screeched, a fast difference from his previously prideful demeanor, and the Firecub couldn't help but smirk in pleasure.
That smirk was soon swiped away, quite literally, as the Glameow's claws raked across his muzzle, managing to nick a part of his nose. The would would probably never fully heal, much like the nick Harley now sported on his ear, but the Firecub didn't care much. He wasn't as vain as Harley, a bonus in his book. After all, he already knew girls always wanted him -- no matter what -- so why worry? In fact, chicks usually dug the whole "wounds from the past" looks, anyways.
As the Glameow jumped back he retreated into the hot place, clearly much more comfortable here than out in the metal sheets. Harley was getting tired, and so was he, but if the Glameow wanted to get him he would have to come into his element now.
And he did.
He watched as Harley rushed through the hot and rocky surface, smirking slightly, before he rushed forth to meet the Glameow half way. His tail burned brightly, and as the Glameow stretched out his claws to get at him the Firecub did the same thing. He tried to latch on and cause as much damage as possible, probably the same thing Harley aimed for, but soon the exchange of blows became too much, and he could feel his consciousness slowly fading away.
With a final cry the Firecub slumped onto the hot ground in defeat, a faint smirk on his lips as he gazed at the Glameow. Lucem had certaintly enjoyed this battle.
"Lucem! Lucem! Are you alright?!"
She didn't think twice, instantly running forth and through the hot area to get to her Firecub, the Pokemon mewling weakly as she struggled to sweep him into her arms. The silly girl, didn't she realize this place was really hot? Still, it was nice to see she cared this much for him, and the feline made sure to show his gratitude by giving her hand a faint lick, before she finally had the sense to move away from the hot area. Now in a more safer place she smiled, petting the Firecub fondly before he was returned into his Poke'Ball. She turned to look at Esther and her Glameow, wondering if her feline had manage to survive the blow-trading of just moments ago.
Whatever the end result, Rizu was very proud of Lucem. In her eyes he had done an excellent work.

It had all happened so fast.
Harley just barely remembered how things had happened. One moment he had been charging across the stadium, paws burning when he was over the hot rocks, and the next, he was latched onto the Firecub, claws out as they scratched each other, snarling and screaming as they tried to do as much damage as they could. At first he had been darting back and forth, nipping at the larger paws and raking his claws down the other feline's side, trying to make as much use of his speed as possible. But then Lucem had managed to latch on to his shoulders and he was pinned to the ground, powerless as he had been before. Then he had stopped bothering to really think through his attacks and things had turned into just a flurry of claws and ripping fur. Throughout it, one thing was clear to Harley: he was running out of energy.
Eventually, the pain got to Harley, and he staggered back, around the time the Firecub had slumped to the ground, and collapsed on the metal sheets. He felt as if he had been asleep through the next events, as they were blurred and faded into one another, but he remembered everything that had happened.
Esther screamed his name when he collapsed, a fear striking her. She knew that it was taboo for a Pokemon to be completely killed during a battle, but she had heard of it happening, and although she had battled before, this was her first battle with Harley, and she felt like a mother hen, fretting over everything her baby did. "Harley! she called out, "Harley, are you alright?". She wanted to run into the stage as Rizu did, but she knew formalities of a battle, and until the referee said so, she wasn't really allowed to run on to the field. She watched nervously for the referee to give her a sign that it was okay, and as soon as he nodded, Esther rushed over to Harley and hunched over his body, softly crooning and stroking his fur--or at least, what was left of it.
Her fear that Harley was dead was gone when he slowly raised a paw to stop her from just irritating his wounds even more. Letting out a breath she didn't know she had been holding, Esther slowly scooped the Glameow into her arms, leaning him over her shoulder. Thankful for the gesture, Harley rasped a tongue over her neck, before settling down and resting. She turned around to look at Rizu, respect in her eyes. "Good battle," she said, "I'd offer a hand, but.." she faded off and nodded over to Harley, who had finally settled down to a maybe-sleep. So with a nod, now that the battle was over, Esther started to exit the stadium. She was proud of Harley, that was for sure.
When Esther walked past, Harley opened one eye to look at the Firecub, a glimmer of respect in his blue eyes before he closed it again, shifting his position to a more comfortable one.

Ooc:// Whoooooo~! =DD And short reply. AYRA, IMA SUGGEST YOU SOMETHING! <3
”Mhmm... We must battle again some day. I'm sure Lucem would enjoy that.” ”Fireeee...”
The girl had managed to pick the young lion cub up in her arms, cradling him like a baby as he rested. His eyes were barely opened, though the Pokemon nodded faintly at Rizu's suggestion. Yes, he would like to be able to spar with Harley in the future – he had developed some respect for the shiny feline after such an arduous battle. For some reason, having a tie with the Glameow and his trainer didn't felt like a loss at all.
”We better get going, though, I need to take Lucem to a Pokemon Center. Oh, let's exchange numbers! We can keep in contact that way~!”
